Tokyo, Japan - November 5 , 2024 -SENSYN ROBOTICS Inc. conducted a proof of concept at the Idemitsu Kosan Co., Ltd.Hokkaido Refinery (Tomakomai City, Hokkaido). Using the autonomous landing and takeoff drone “DJI Dock 2,” this proof of concept validated the effectiveness of remote real-time inspection in tank yards.

Idemitsu Kosan aims to enhance security and productivity through DX (digital transformation) by increasing the efficiency and sophistication of facility inspections. The company is currently advancing plans to employ drones for inspecting facilities at high elevations and conducting emergency inspections following natural disasters. To support these initiatives, SENSYN ROBOTICS has continuously provided operational support through its “Rakuraku Drone™*1” service, helping Idemitsu Kosan improve security and productivity.

Customer Feedback

While drones have been introduced to enhance safety at production sites and improve the efficiency of facility inspections, new time requirements, such as preparation (including transportation and assembly), operation, clean-up, and reviewing the images collected, have prevented the anticipated efficiency gains. To address this issue, a proof of concept was conducted using the autonomous landing and takeoff drone “DJI Dock 2” to perform remote inspections of the tank yard. This solution demonstrated that work associated with drone flights could be eliminated, enabling efficient remote inspections and monitoring. Furthermore, with SENSYN ROBOTICS' customer support, we could seamlessly complete complex procedures, including legal applications for DIPS (Drone Information Platform System) compliance, which users would have difficulty navigating independently. Given the support available for any uncertainties that arise, we found this service highly appealing.
Going forward, we will continue expanding drone applications to further improve safety and enhance the efficiency and sophistication of inspection operations.

SENSYN CORE*2, an AI application development platform developed by SENSYN ROBOTICS, has functionality to integrate with data captured by “DJI Dock 2.” Still images and videos obtained with the “DJI Dock 2” are automatically transferred to “SENSYN CORE Datastore,” a data management feature, upon drone landing. This automatically transferred data can then undergo post-processing in “SENSYN CORE Datastore,” including AI analysis and report generation, tailored to business requirements.

Idemitsu Kosan plans to introduce the “DJI Dock 2” to its Hokkaido Refinery by the end of this fiscal year, advancing the use of drones for remote patrol operations. Together with Idemitsu Kosan, SENSYN ROBOTICS aims to automate and enhance remote patrol operations using “DJI Dock 2” and “SENSYN CORE.”

Notes

*1 “Rakuraku Drone™” - a subscription-based service including a drone unit, operational support before and after implementation, and liability insurance. It provides continuous support through a dedicated specialist who oversees the entire process, from training and regulatory compliance (remote ID, unit registration) to on-site operations.

*2 “SENSYN CORE” - an AI application development platform created by SENSYN Robotics. It consists of functions for robot control, data management, and AI analysis, allowing rapid application development and prompt improvements in field operations by combining functions to meet specific objectives.
